I would like to close my case on the racism from the right. If anyone saw the hearings for Sotomayor, specifically Jeff Sessions and Lindsey Graham saw the hatred toward latino's clearly come out. One comment was "don't all dark skinned people think the same". Colin Powell was right Republicans still have a major problem with race. I'm sorry for those who don't like hearing this but these are facts. I will also keep in mind that Samuel Alieto (not a typo) said the same thing that Sotomayor said and got NO grief.
Where was this "don't all dark skinned people think the same[?]" quote? Who said it and why can't I look it up?
ReplyDeleteIt was Sen Graham on Tuesday during the hearing for Sotomayor. I guess the right wing media didn't think it was newsworthy enough to quote but he absolutely said it.
ReplyDeleteFrom googling, it doesn't look like any other media regardless of political leaning reported it. And, I just spent 30 minutes reading a transcript of Graham's questioning on Tuesday, July 14 and couldn't find it. Any more clues as to where the remark is? http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/07/sotomayor-hearings-complete-transcript-4.html and
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom, I was doing the same research and I can only conclude that Erik either missed something or took the remark out of context.
ReplyDeleteHad it been said in the context Erik suggests, it would be all over the place. Graham's political career would be over.
