Hammer Dropped

So the hammer dropped on the USC Football program. Sanctions include a two year ban on postseason appearences, loss of 20 scholarships, vacated wins from their undefeated 2004 season among other things. No wonder Pete Carroll bailed on them since he was involved in the problem. Of course why Mike Garrett is still there I don't know. I know how this type of problem would be fixed and that is to pay the athletes but I know that won't happen. It is unknown whether they will have to vacate the National Championship they won in 2004 but if they have to vacate wins I don't see how they can't as well as Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy. Bottom line they broke rules and they got caught.

This is wrong - not that USC is being punished but in the way it is being done.

It is wrong to hurt the current athletes who had nothing to do with this. Apply the sanctions 4 years from now and effectively shut down USC's football and basketball programs then.

They want to take USC's National Title away. That's wrong too.

From my own perspective when it went the other way. The New England Patriots were caught cheating in Super Bowl XXXVI. Even so, I would never had wanted my Rams to back in to a championship had they taken the title away from the Patriots. Similarly, The Oklahoma Sooners (who were demolished by the Trojans) have no claim on that title.
