The trick is they tell you who to blame for their failings (immigrants, lgbt, whoever) and get you to vote against your best interests. They are masters at that. They play on people's feelings and get you to vote on them instead of actual issues.
If there was an honest debate between Democrats and Republicans based solely on issues Republicans would never win except in states like Texas. That's the truth.
