Issues vs. Personal

One of the main differences between Robert and I (funny outside the website we're good friends) is I stick with issues but instead of disagreeing with me and making an intelligent argument why Robert would rather go with a personal attack against me. He doesn't like the fact that I blame Republicans for the state of our country right now even though they have been in charge since the 1990's when they seized Congress and the Senate on the phony contract on America.

The best example on that other then a few posts down where Robert's latest feeble attempt to smear me is when I made a comment (it's in the archives) about how horrible it would be for our country if our auto industry went down and I pointed out how it's simple union busting. Robert instead of making an argument why I'm wrong on that went on to attack the fact that I drive a Japanese car. Which I do but if he bothered to actually read my post nowhere did I say you had to buy American because you have a choice to buy whatever you chose but, as usual for Robert, made absolutely no argument what-so-ever against my point.

I figure there are a couple of reasons why:
A) Robert can't make an argument and would rather attack me
B) Robert won't make an argument and would rather attack me
C) Robert agrees with what I say and is too proud to admit it and would rather attack me
D) Robert really doesn't understand the issues I talk about and just attacks me

Either way Robert also questioned why I attack Republicans with such venom. Really Robert how would you feel if you have been called un-American if you don't blindly support Bush as I have been the past 8 years. How would you feel if you have been called un-patriotic as I have if you don't support Iraq? How would you feel if you feel if you have been told I don't support our troops as I have been since I disagree with Bush? I would not say anyone is unpatriotic if they disagree with President Obama and I would never expect anyone to support everything Obama will do in the next 4 to 8 years. And Robert keep in mind and something you really don't talk about I will happily agree with any Republican that has an idea I like and again if you would bother to look at my site you will see examples. You will also see examples of times I disagree with Democrats. Yes my attention is on Republicans but they deserve it for how our country is right now. And yet they still offer the same ideas that got us where we are. In other words THEY DON'T WORK!

And really Robert as you know me personally you would know how I've been outsourced twice during the Bush years and I've gone from making a decent living to struggling to get by every month. You think I want to live where I am? I don't I have to. I have real reason cause it's Republican policies that lead to this. I have real reasons to hate these people.

So really Robert I guess it all comes down to this. If you want to talk issues fine. If you, like the typical Republican you are, wanna to do smears that's fine I fight back I don't take bull$shit especially from someone who doesn't make a point otherwise.

Robert I would love to have an intelligent argument on the issues. I really would but if you want to go the low road you seem to forget I know you too and I'll be very happy to go round for round with you

A long post about me is going to get a long response.

“Republicans are evil. They are slime”
”…you have the attention span of a typical Republican YOU are”

First of all, Erik, you can give up the whole saint act. I’ve told you I am not a Republican many times, yet you continually call me one. I can only conclude from your own words that since you see me as a “typical Republican” and since Republicans are evil and slimy, I must be evil and slimy.

I do call myself a conservative and since you are convinced that all conservatives are openly racist, I must be openly racist.

Yet you accuse me of smearing you.

Secondly, I am not and never have said I was a political pundit. I’m not like you where I scour the news and various sites on the Internet and stay on top of myriads of political issues. So in one way, you are right, I rarely try to debate you on specific points you make. It’s not that I can’t but honestly, I just don’t care enough due to lack of interest to argue with you point by point. I’m sorry if this frustrates you but you need to find someone else out there who wants to directly debate you. That’s not me. I hate politics.

When I do comment on your posts, I tend to point out flaws in your logic or some specific point of view you aren’t considering. When I do this, you often make overbroad assumptions about what I am saying and try to pick a fight concerning the issues. This is usually where you call me a “typical Republican”.

Believe it or not, Erik, I post in your blog because I know you and try to help you make better arguments. There are plenty of other sites out there that have content that I’m really interested in, but I take time to visit yours.

How many of your bar buddies and MySpace friends visit and comment on your site like I do? Frankly, I think I’m the only one who is being a real friend to you here. As I write this, I wonder if any of your bar buddies would ever consider taking this much time out of their day for you like I am. Just consider that next time you accuse me of being something I am not.

And consider that too below in my third point.

”And really Robert as you know me personally you would know how I've been outsourced twice during the Bush years and I've gone from making a decent living to struggling to get by every month. You think I want to live where I am? I don't I have to. I have real reason cause it's Republican policies that lead to this. I have real reasons to hate these people”

Your statement above speaks volumes. You have finally revealed something I always knew about you. That is, you blame others for your life situation.

I say “finally” because we’ve had this discussion before here.

In that discussion, you wrote the following:

"Did I once say it was George's fault? Quit putting words in my mouth. I never blamed anyone or anything for my situation.“

“Again did I say my situation is Bush's fault. I blame him for the problems he created for the country but not for my mess.”

” Personally no they [right-wingers] haven't hurt me.”

You seemed to have turned 180 degrees on this.

There are two types of people in the world – Those who take personal responsibility for their lives, and those who search and find blame in others to account for their lot in life. Erik, you (like most Democrats) are in the latter category. Your whole blog is about your victimhood. You call it “Left Over Right” but that name does not fit. “Why the Right is Evil” would be a much more appropriate name for your blog since you rarely even talk about the left, you just seem to bash the right.

If you are unhappy with your life, it’s not because of Mom and Dad. It’s not because you grew up poor or have a different skin color or a different culture. It’s not because of global warming and it’s not because of big, bad, George Bush. If you are unhappy, the place to look is no further than the nearest mirror.

Let’s take a look at what you said above. You lost two jobs because of Republicans. What a load of crap you whiner! You don’t like where you live? Do something about it instead of taking all this time reading Media Matters, Think Progress, The Huffington Post, and watching CNN looking for people to assign the blame.

What skills do you have Erik? Do you give extra effort at your company to distinguish yourself? Do you give thought to how you can do your job better? Do you study and develop skills so you can get a better job? OR do you punch your timecard, go through the motions, and just grind it out through your day always looking at your watch to see how long before it’s time to leave? I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the latter.

Honestly, Erik, I don’t even know what you do. That’s because you have never been about your job. You seem to see your job as the thing you have to do in between going to bars, or the racetrack, or the casinos. That’s fine. That’s how a lot of people live. Just don’t complain about the people who made different choices than you did. No one is keeping you down other than you.

The only passion I ever see in you is politics and sports. Why don't you do what it takes to get into these fields instead of feeling sorry for yourself?

One more comment.

"Robert instead of making an argument why I'm wrong on that went on to attack the fact that I drive a Japanese car."

Wrong, Erik! My point was not about you driving a Japanese car. Here is what I said:

"If you are such a supporter of unions, why did you buy a non-union built Nissan?"

What it really Is

It was a question. Why did you consider it an attack? I didn't know you were so sensitive.
