How I would run the DMC campaign

We have an important election coming up in November everyone is saying there is a good chance Democrats can take back the House and Senate which would be great because we would finally have some oversite on the corrupt Bush Administration (did anyone see where contracts to Halliburton has risen 600% under Bush. No cause that was not reported by the Bush-loving media). Right now the Republicans have the advantage because they control the news and talk media.

But I have a couple of ideas for Howard Dean and the DNC.

First Iraq is not a war it's an occupation. Bush himself when he landed on the aircraft carrier a couple of years ago said the war was over (major combat operations) so if that were true why are soldiers still there and no signs of coming home. I would point that out. And continue to say it's an occupation instead of a war no matter what and if an interviewer says war correct him/her every time.

Second even though it probably wouldn't mean much to the average voter I would point out every district where there is a republican under investigation. I would point out how Democrats dismissed William Jefferson from the committee he is on even though he has only been under investigation yet Republicans are not willing to do the same with their members who are currently being investigated for criminal behavior like Bill Frist for that matter.(being investigated for insider trading)

I would continously play soundbites from Dick Cheney and George Bush when they said "No one could anticipate the insurgency in Iraq" or "No one anticipated the levees would fail" or any number of soundbites where the Bush Administration just looked stupid with the tagline "no overstite".

That's how I would do it.

A couple of things:

Bush never said the war was over. The closest thing was "Mission accomplished" (yeah, that was an overstatment). But even after his infamous "Mission accomplished" statment, he went on to say:

"We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We're bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We're pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime, who will be held to account for their crimes ...

"The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done. Then we will leave, and we will leave behind a free Iraq."

That's not exactly "The war is over".

Secondly, your "strategy" is typical a Democrat negative campaign. That is: "We won't go into details of what our intentions are, we just know that all Republicans are always wrong. I can't detail what we will do, but rest assured, it won't be the 'Bush' way."

We've seen 6 years of republican intentions haven't we and where are we now? No oversite nothing but corruption from republicans no one is calling them on anything. An administration out of control. Yeah Republicans have done us well.

That statement only exemplifies my point. All Democrats seem to do is attack Republicans.

Let me see what have I been hearing from the right...Oh yeah cut and run.. Cowards don't pull out...Give me a break.

By the way Robert how do you respond to your friend Rush who said on his radio show liberals are "happy" that the soldiers were murdered as they were. (the two who were kidnapped). When no one is saying that that I heard of. But then again you claim Democrats attack huh ?

Robert E Wilson said...

"your friend Rush" ?????????

I absolutely abhor that man. You are way too assuming, Erik.

Erik said...

I didn't assume anything. But you say democrats attack when it's only the right that is attacking.

Just also remember Robert being a conservative puts you in the same bed as Rush, O'Reilly etc. whether you agree with them or not.

Let's forget Republicans, just for a minute. My whole point in this thread has been that the whole platform of the Democratic Party seems to be:

Anything and everything Republicans do is wrong.

Let's cut to the chase Erik. Your original post indicates that you believe that the Democrats should run an entirely negative ad campaign against the Republicans. Just suppose, a reporter actually asks a candidate "If the Republicans are so wrong about (Name your topic here), how would you deal with (this topic)?

That is utter BS and you should know this as well as I do. Didn't you just post how you disagree with Joe Lieberman? Yet, by your own logic, you are in the same bed as him.

Just as not all liberals think alike, not all conservatives think alike either.

Erik said...

You forget Lieberman is not a liberal but a conservative in a democrat party. I said he should leave the party cause people like him DON'T represent my views. And my last post on Lieberman was if he doesn't win the party nomination in Ct. He will leave the party and I said don't let the door hit him on the way out.

Erik said...

My last post on Lieberman: So Sen. Joe Lieberman wants to run as an independent if he loses the Democratic Primary in CT. to progressive candidate Ned Lamont. I say don't let the door hit you on the a$$ on the way out.

People like him need to leave the democrat party because he is just a suckup to the Bush Administration. There is no room for him. Get out.

On that basis, many liberals would consider you a conservative. After all, you believe in the death penalty. Oddly enough, I consider myself to be a conservative, yet, I hold what is considered to be a liberal view on the death penalty.

Ask 1,000 people what a liberal and a conservative is, you will get 1,000 different answers.

Erik said...

No disagreement on that point everyone has different ideas on what their party should be

I've also said I'm not liberal on every issue. I guess that makes me a moderate.
