The shooting backfired and turned into an embarassment for the administration because of their own doing. That's why this will continue to be news instead of dying off as it would have for the following reason:
First they don't report(disclose) the shooting til close to 24 hours after it happened which makes it look like more then it was and the people are already suspicious on past cover-ups for the Bush Administration.
Second when the gentlemen Cheney shot had a heart attack yesterday Scott McClellan knew it happened prior to his press briefing and didn't say it at that time which again makes the administration look like it's covering it up.
That's why I don't even believe it was accidental really if you take a look at this.

Why is it significant that the accident didn't get reported to the press for 18 hours? Funny, if you had an accident, would it be high on your priority list to report it to the media?
He also didn't report it to more importantly the police. Imagine if it was John Kerry or Bill Clinton the outrage if this happened with them?

Nobody would have hardly cared or made a fraction of the noise that is going on here.
By the way, Cheney and friends did get immediate medical attention to the hospital. Isn't that the first concern? It wasn't up to Cheney to report it to the police.
