Bastards

You know with the disaster that was the failed takeover by the ports by the Dubai company and the fact that is well known there is little to know security at the ports you would think the right wing would have jumped at the chance to show that they really were serious to be tough on security. Guess not.

Rep. Martin Sabo (D-MN) proposed an amendment to the budget that would allow for $1.25 Billion dollars for port securtiy and disaster preparedness. Here is what the funding would be for:

– $300 million to enable U.S. customs agents to inspect high-risk containers at all 140 overseas ports that ship directly to the United States. Current funding only allows U.S. customs agents to operate at 43 of these ports.

– $400 million to place radiation monitors at all U.S. ports of entry. Currently, less than half of U.S. ports have radiation monitors.

– $300 million to provide backup emergency communications equipment for the Gulf Coast.

You would think that this makes sense again with the fact that there pretty much is little to no security but the right-wing in their infinite wisdom decided no to that amendment. 210 republicans voted against it.

Meanwhile the Bush budget has an increase of $1.7 BILLION dollars for Missille Defense, you know star wars, you know something every president since Reagan has tried and failed miserably. You wanna talk about who is really looking out for you it's not the republican party.
