From media maters
One of my favorite people Bill O'Reilly is at it again. He said if there are gay marriage laws passed that it will lead to people marrying 18 other people as well as people marrying animals. He has said things like that before.
Now I realize these right-wingers are ignorant and stupid but what is wrong with two people, same sex or different, sharing the rest of their lives together?? It will not lead to the disaster O'Reilly and most people think why is this so outrageous to except that people of the same sex can care and love each other as straight people like myself do?
And anyone who sites the bible is just plain wrong and is out of touch with today's society.

I don't have such extreme views as Bill O'Reilly. I believe that perhaps, the reason most people who object to gay marriage laws, is due to using the word "marriage".
Marriage is a special word to christians. It is one of the blessed sacraments outlined by Jesus, similar to baptism and communion. Marriage is expressly defined as a union of man and woman. So gays can use another term such as "union" or whatever they feel is best, but not "marriage".
There is no law against people of the same sex can caring and loving each other. The whole issue is about whether they have the same rights as a married couple do such as hospital visitations and "right to die" situations. I bet most people are fine with this as long as they don't call their union a marriage.
I understand marriage is a special word even though I'm single. What difference does it make as long as it's two people in love?
